Paul Mathieu is an internationally celebrated artist that has won the governors general award in visual arts as well as the Saydie Bronfman Award for Excellence in Crafts. Mathieu is a seasoned artist that has been teaching ceramics since 1976 and is now currently the associate professor of visual art + material practice at Emily Carr University, since 1996. His work has been exhibited in 21 individual exhibitions since 1978 around North America. Mathieu’s work explores functionality and the decorative nature of ceramics and critiques the stereotypes are associated with crafts in general.
