The Lafayette first opened its doors in 1849 and although it’s never closed since, this Ottawa establishment has gone through a lot of changes. The current inception is The Laff: a comfortable pub in the heart of Ottawa's Byward Market.

The Laff's quart-sized beers go over well with the American tourists and all those who just don't get the metric system. You will find Guinness, Blackthorn Cider, Keith's, Heineken, Rickard's Gold and Red, Canadian, Blue and Ex. There’s also house wine and a selection of liquors. If you get the munchies after a few pints, fear not: the Laff is affiliated with the Quiznos’ next door. You can get your sub right too your table.

There are live bands every Tuesday and Wednesday night as well. In the absence of live entertainment, the tavern has a huge jukebox in the back so you can hear your favourite song as often as you like.  A couple of TVs are usually showing whatever sporting event is hot, but no matter the season you can tell you’re in Canada: beer flags and hockey paraphernalia line the walls and flutter from the rafters. Copper-topped tables lend an old-timey feel. Saturday afternoons, the musical stylings of Ottawa icon Lucky Ron, will get your toes tapping.
