Welcome to Ottawa’s Historic ByWard Market Square, located in the oldest residential and commercial area of the City. The current building was constructed in 1926, renovated in 1975 and reopened in 1976.
In Nov. 1997 the ByWard Market Revitalization Group formed a joint venture with the City of Ottawa and undertook a major renovation and restoration of nearly $2 million. The friendly Byward Market Square is now home to over 20 individually owned and operated businesses. The Food Emporium is irresistible with an array of delicacies from the 4 Corners of the World. Included are grocery items that you can buy to create your own gourmet meal or take home the prepared meal and “enjoy”. Byward Market Square has a French Bakery where everything is baked on the premises.
Watch Bagels being made in an open fire, wood-burning oven, visit our very own Chocolate Factory or stop by one of the Boutiques or Artisans to find a gift for yourself or that "Special Someone." ByWard Market Square is open 7 days a week and is within walking distance to the City’s major attractions. Whether you are a resident or a visitor ByWard Market Square is a true "Market Experience." We have created a nice selection of photos within our photo gallery section that depicts the various events that occur within the ByWard Market as well as some of the scenes of the Market.
