**** SARA BANKS / CONTORTIONIST !!!!
<< "Contortionist, Art Model, Performance Artist, and Vegan Chef. My art spans many diverse categories of social commentary, alternative lifestyles, surrealism, body abstraction, and queer identities".
- Performance by Toronto's Andrew Harwood
Artist Statment: Madame Zsa Zsa, The Underwater Oracle (or $2 Psychic) is a bit of a throw back to early twentieth century sideshows from the circus. It is a performance that plays with gender, identity, nature and at its core is about connecting with people.
I have devised a system that is like the fortune telling machines that used to be found in gaming arcades of days-gone-by, where a “genie” inside a glass box, dispensed advise in the form of a printed message. I will also tell each participant that I am not really psychic, nor trained togive advise, so that there is no confusion and that they clearly know that this is about human connection and entertainment, than an actual psychic reading. In this work I will request that the participant ask me three question that can be answered by yes, no or maybe. This is also an exercise in reading what people really want to hear, spiced with campy advise. I have done a similar performance in front of Paul Petro Contemporary Art, as an independent project for Nuit Blanche".
- Explicit & thought provoking artwork by Toronto artists Daryl Vocat & Bruce Eves, Ottawa's Alain Houde, and commissioned portraits of the male appendage by Martin Butler. Artwork also featured by the members of La Petite Mort Gallery.
- Window Mural by Graham Robinson aka BEASTON
- Tunes by dj Christopher Jabbour
This once-a-year event serves a purpose to satisfy the high demand Ottawa wants for events that not only shock and amuse, but also in helping out a needy cause. Normally, the evening’s proceeds are handed over to a major research institution, in hopes of helping the cause, but it's second year, we have chosen to find a smaller, specific group that we could help with immediate results. We chose Villa Marguerite at the Centre Bruyere in Ottawa, a care centre for those affected with Alzheimer’s & Dementia. It’s also where my mother resides, and where I believe the unique staff are people like no other, people who’s hearts far surpass what most of us can comprehend.
Let’s celebrate Pride with a BANG. My goal is to blow your mind, and perhaps get you laid.
$10 at the door or in advance at La Petite Mort Gallery / 18+
All proceeds from the event will benefit the lives of people affected with Alzheimers’ & Dementia
