ONE NIGHT STAND with DAN MARTELOCK
Friday July 31, 2009 / 7 - 10pm
Tunes by Big Mac Daddy
Proudly sponsored by CKCU 93.1 FM
Statement:
Daniel's passion for drawing, painting and design started when he was 9 years old. His personal library of sketch books was created throughout the many kilometers traveled on local bus routes, trips to the cottage and basically any time he could. He graduated form Interior Design in 2002 which only sparked his desire to create and made him hunger for more. Daniels paintings often subliminally touch on world issues while dancing with innocence and imagination. He enjoys using discarded materials and making them meaningful again, as far too much is being put to waste in this day and age. His interest in recycling and reinventing the objects around him, while attempting to create awareness, fuels Daniel's work and feeds his endless desire to design, paint and create.

Designed as a sequel to the highly successful and critically acclaimed exhibition on Renaissance Florence in 2005, From Raphael to Carracci: The Art of Papal Rome will feature a unique and unprecedented group of works by some of the most celebrated names in Italian art. Ottawa will be the only venue for this extraordinary exhibition, which will survey and illuminate one of the most significant periods in art history: 16th-century Rome.
Approximately 150 paintings and drawings will be displayed, including rare works by such acknowledged masters as Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, El Greco, Giorgio Vasari, Federico Barocci, and Annibale Carracci, as well as lesser-known but nonetheless superb artists, many of whom have only recently been appreciated for their skill and relevance.
Take this unique opportunity to see the works of eminent European Artists. From Raphael to Carracci: The Art of Papal Rome is the must-see exhibition this summer at the National Gallery of Canada.
SPAO is proud to be a stop on the Karsh Trail this summer with SPAO’s Red Wall Gallery presenting the exhibition ‘Likeness’.
Contemporary photo-based artists explore the portrait as a mode of representation in this celebratory group exhibition.
