Illumination Calendar

  • The BMDA has two main application periods:

    • November intake period: Apply in November for illumination dates occurring in the new year, January 1 to June 30.

    • May intake period: Apply in May for illuminations occurring July 1 to December 31.

    Late requests received outside of the intake periods may be accommodated based on scheduling availability. A minimum of 5 business days is required for evaluation and processing and a late fee will apply.

  • Conferences and major events eligible for illumination within this category:

    • Conferences

      • Corporate and International – 500 delegates +

      • All other markets – 500 room nights on peak + (approx. 1200 delegates)

    • Major Events

      • International – 500 total attendees +

      • All other markets – 1000 total attendees +

    Requests must adhere to all relevant City policies and bylaws, including the Corporate Sponsorship and Advertising Policy, which prohibits the representation of the following:

    • Pornography;

    • Support of, or involvement in the production, distribution, and sale of weapons and other life-threatening products;

    • Alcohol and other addictive substances; and

    • Demeaning or derogatory portrayals, which, in light of generally prevailing community standards, may cause deep or widespread offence.

    Requests must also reflect principles of objectivity and non-partisanship, and reflect the following principles:

    • Non-religious;

    • Apolitical and non-diplomatic;

    • Free of discrimination, hatred, violence and/or racism; and

    • Of benefit to the wider community.

  • Corporate Festivals and Events may be subject to fees at the discretion of the BMDA for:

    • Applications sent outside of intake period - $250 +HST

    • Custom illumination request for all applicants: additional fees of $250 + HST
