Let it be known that the ByWard Market District Authority is calling upon all musicians, dancers, and performers of every kind to partake in the newly refreshed Street Performer Program.

You’ve heard that right! We are revamping our Street Performer Program based on your feedback and that of the public and local business community to make it better for everyone - especially you, you amazing group of talented people.
Whether you’re new to the scene or a returning favourite, our refreshed program is designed to give you an even better experience as a busker.
We’ve picked out the very best spots for your shows, where you’ll be seen, heard, and appreciated by everyone. Our Talent Zones, as we call them now, have been chosen based on historical use, pedestrian traffic, safety, and impact on nearby businesses. And just to make sure you can’t miss them, we’ve added clear updated signage that screams OWN THIS STAGE.

However, since the market is always buzzing, we encourage you to keep an eye on our website or get in touch with our team to stay up to date on any changes to the Talent Zones, as availability may shift due to events, construction, or seasonal adjustments.
We’ve also made it easier than ever to apply for or renew your permit. All you need to do is:

Wait for your application to be reviewed
Pay the permit fee once approved and receive your Street Performer Permit
“Wait… there’s a fee?”
Yes, there is! To obtain your permit, you’ll be asked to pay a non-refundable application fee of $50.00, subject to applicable taxes. Renewals are half the cost, at $25.00. And if you’re a member of the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC), your permit is free! (All revenues fuel the program itself, building better spaces, smoother systems, and unforgettable experiences for performers and audiences alike.)
Once you meet our eligibility criteria and receive your permit, you’re all set to own the stage.
